Baritone Yeongtaek Yang has rapidly emerged as one of the most promising young baritones of his generation. Acclaimed for “hearty” “stirring” and “stentorian” performances (CVNA), he is distinguished by his refined musicianship, commanding stage presence, and exceptional artistic versatility.

In the 2025-26 season, Yeongtaek Yang returns to the Metropolitan Opera for his second year in the prestigious Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, where he performs as Moralès in Carmen and Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly as well as covers Ping in Turandot and Roucher in Andrea Chénier. The baritone made a “confident and stylish” (NYCR) Metropolitan Opera debut as Marullo in Rigoletto, led by Daniele Callegari, followed by a notable appearance as the Second Nazarene in the company’s new and critically acclaimed production of Salome, under the baton of Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In spring 2026, Mr. Yang sees his first performances with Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile for his role debut as Marcello in La bohème, and this summer returns to the Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist.

Further appearances include his company debut with the Dallas Opera as the Chancellor in Turandot and a concert with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. Operatic credits of recent seasons include the title role in Gianni Schicchi at the Chautauqua Institution, covers of Giorgio Germont in La traviata and the title role in Don Giovanni at the Santa Fe Opera, and performances of the Forester in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Des Grieux in Massenet’s Le portrait de Manon, and the title role in Don Giovanni at Seoul National University.

Yeongtaek Yang has received top honors in numerous major vocal competitions, including first prize in the 2024 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition (Opera Division), first place in the Manhattan School of Music’s 2024 Alan M. and Joan Taub Ades Vocal Competition, first prize in the 2022 Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition, Second prize in the 2024 Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition. His artistry has consistently been recognized for its depth of interpretation, technical excellence, and emotional immediacy. A native of South Korea, Yeongtaek Yang is an alumnus of the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Artist Program and the Chautauqua Institution. He holds degrees in voicefrom Seoul National University and the Manhattan School of Music.
